Control volume for each app independently. Route audio to different output devices. Native, lightweight, free.
Built with Swift and SwiftUI. No Electron, no web views, no bloat.
OS 27 compatibility
Updated 2026-09-16.
- GitHub — Version 1.0.4: OS 27 compatibility checked with an Xcode 27 build and signed-artifact checks. The Direct download now supports Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. Extended playback and audio-device testing has not been completed.
- App Store — Version 1.0.4: OS 27 compatibility checked with an Xcode 27 build. Extended playback and audio-device testing has not been completed.
Checks use Xcode 27 builds and automated tests where available. Full testing on physical devices has not been completed. Minimum OS requirements are unchanged.

Update or install the Direct edition
- Existing users — update in app: Open the mixer panel and click the version number in its bottom bar (tooltip: Check for updates), then choose Download > Install Now.
- New installation: download
SoundFlow-v1.0.4.zip, extract it, and move SoundFlow.app to Applications.
- Manual fallback: if the in-app updater is unavailable or fails, quit the app, extract the same ZIP, and replace the existing app in Applications.
If you installed SoundFlow from the Mac App Store, updates are delivered through the App Store instead. The App Store build does not include the GitHub updater.
Verify the download
- Signed with Developer ID, hardened runtime and a secure timestamp. Apple notarization accepted; ticket stapled; Gatekeeper verification passed.
- VirusTotal: 0 malicious, 0 suspicious; 65 undetected, 2 failure, 7 type-unsupported. View the exact-file report.
- Asset:
SoundFlow-v1.0.4.zip (version 1.0.4, build 7). The sibling SoundFlow-v1.0.4.zip.sha256 contains the same checksum.

Download
Mac App Store — recommended
Download SoundFlow free on the Mac App Store. New versions are delivered through the App Store.
Direct build
The separate direct build is available from GitHub Releases. Download the ZIP, move SoundFlow.app to Applications, and launch it. The direct and App Store builds use separate update channels and may show different version numbers.
Requirements
|
Requirement |
| OS |
macOS 14.2 (Sonoma) or later |
| Direct build chip |
Apple Silicon or Intel (universal download) |
SoundFlow uses the Core Audio Tap API, which was introduced in macOS 14.2. Earlier versions are not supported.
Permissions
On first launch, SoundFlow needs Screen & System Audio Recording permission to read audio streams from other apps. This is the standard permission for the Core Audio Tap API — it does not record your screen.
To grant access:
- Click the SoundFlow menu bar icon and try to adjust an app’s volume.
- macOS will prompt you to grant permission.
- Click Open System Settings, then enable SoundFlow under Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording.
- Quit and relaunch SoundFlow.

- Fork this repository.
- Edit an existing file in the
languages/ folder, or create a new one by copying English.xml.
- Translate the string values (the text between
<string> tags) — do not change the key attributes.
- Keep any
%1, %2, %@, %d placeholders in place — the app needs them.
- Submit a pull request.

Troubleshooting
Volume slider doesn’t affect an app
Some apps need a moment to attach their audio stream. Try playing audio in the app first, then adjust the volume. If it still doesn’t work, the app may be using a non-standard audio path, such as a virtual audio driver like BlackHole.
App not appearing in the list
SoundFlow only shows apps that have a real app icon. Background daemons and helper processes are filtered out automatically. If your app uses Electron or web views, the audio may come from a helper process — SoundFlow detects this and shows the parent app’s name.
